Jesse Doane Jr., age 85 of Delaware passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Wintersong Village following a brief illness.

He was born in Sunbury on October 21, 1925 to the late Jesse P. and Laura (Shannon) Doane. After attending Sunbury High School he was called to serve in the US Navy, participating in the Asiatic Pacific area during WW II.

Jesse moved to Delaware in 1952. For over 37 years he worked at Ranco as both a group leader and press operator before retiring. He enjoyed Ford automobiles and working around his home, tending to his yard. A collector of elephants, he also treasured horses. He is fondly recalled for puttering around with his garden tractor and his immaculate 1977 Ford F-100 pickup truck. Fixing anything mechanical and woodworking were his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by his sons: Lester and James both of Delaware, grandson: Craig, sister-in-law: Tina Doane of Sunbury, nieces: Joyce (Phil) Link of Sunbury, Phyllis (Darrel) Adkins of Galena, and Sharon (Mike) Kramer of Powell, several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife: Mary Alice(Cordial) in 1970, second wife: Mary Elizabeth (Webb) Bryant in 1993, dear friend: Marian Cackler in 2010, brothers: Richard, Harold, and Raymond, and sisters: Cleta McManis, Ruth Hutchinson, and Hazel Gray, niece Charlene Sullivan, and great-niece: Amanda Adkins.

Friends may call Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will follow Thursday 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Marilyn Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc.
