MASON: Jerry F. Babik, 72 of Village Drive, Mason, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 in Hospice of Cincinnati at Blue Ash following a short illness.
He was born September 25, 1931 in Garfield Heights to Frank and Katie (Misica) Babik, Czechoslovakian immigrants, was raised in Cleveland, and was graduated Valedictorian from Cleveland South High School in 1950, where he played varsity baseball, and attracted the attention of major league scouts.
Jerry attended The Ohio State University, and was graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1954 with his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Administration.
On September 18, 1953 he married Susan I. (Ritenour) Babik of Grape Grove.
From 1955 to 1957 he served with the US Army, 4th Armored Division, honorably discharged from active duty as First Lieutenant, but continued to serve with the Army Reserve, elevated to Captain.
Jerry had worked as an engineer and Data Processing Systems Analyst, with Proctor & Gamble, Allis-Chalmers Corp., and Cincinnati Bell Information Systems, where he served until his retirement in 1992.
An avid sports fan, he remained active playing baseball and softball on church teams throughout his life. When not playing, Jerry was tuned into some sports action, and was a fervent Reds supporter.
Accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior, Jerry set a foundation for his life and family while still a young man in college. This foundation of faith was evident not just in words, but in actions and in truth.
A prayer warrior, he was a member of Madeira Church of Christ, where he had served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on numerous committees.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years Susan; two sons and daughters-in-law David A. & Paula Babik of Florence, Kentucky, and Roger W. and Tanya Babik of Walton, Kentucky; a daughter and son-in-law Linda A. and J. Todd Snyder of Mansfield; nine grandchildren Stephen, Sharon, Deborah, Lydia, Jerrod, Leah and Joy Babik and Hannah and Gideon Snyder; and a sister-in-law Ann McKnight of Mason.
In addition to his parents, his stepmother Sue Babik preceded him in death.
