Jean M. Young
March 05, 1927 ‒ October 03, 2011
Jean M. Young, age 84, passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2011 at her home with family by her side. Born Jean M. Fitch to Leo H. Fitch and Marabelle Fitch Conkle on March 5, 1927, Jean was a lifetime resident of Marion, OH.
On August 28, 1946 Jean was united in marriage with Paul S. Young. They were blessed with 65 wonderful years together.
As Jean battled Parkinson’s disease for many years, her quiet strength and courage was ever present. A devoted wife and mother, Jean lovingly kept the home and raised 5 sons. She served her country during World War II by working at the Marion Engineer Depot.
Jean attended Edison High School where she was a cheerleader. As an adult, she continued to enjoy getting together with “The Edison Gang”. She participated in a bowling league for many years, and was an avid swimmer. Jean and her husband enjoyed life with a passion. They frequently traveled across the country and enjoyed water and snow skiing as well. Summers found them at their home in Lakeside, OH where they entertained family and friends. In later years, the couple enjoyed their winters in St. Petersburg, Fla.
A woman of faith, Jean was a member of The First Church of the Brethren and humbly lived out her beliefs. Whether she was playing cards with her card club, entertaining “the girls” at Lakeside, or hosting a family dinner, Jean was a joy to be around with her gentle, kind, and positive nature.
She is survived by her husband; 4 sons, Russell E. (Elizabeth) Young of Aurora, OH, Jeffrey A. Young of Orofino, ID, Michael S. Young of Marion, OH, P. Steven (Beth) Young of Caledonia, OH; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and 2 sister-in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Fitch, Marabelle Fitch Conkle, step-father, Samuel Conkle; brother, Theodore Fitch; son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Cheryl Young; daughter-in-law, Vivian Young; and numerous brother and sister-in-laws.
The Young family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, October 7, at Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m. at The First Church of the Brethren, 860 E. Church St., Marion, with Pastor Rick Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery in Marion.
