Jean A. Carpenter

Jean A. Carpenter, age 88 of Galena, died Saturday morning March 17, 2012 at Grady Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
She was born on November 30, 1923 in Portsmouth to the late Harold John Bard and Alta Virginia (Norris) Carrington. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and a retired secretary for the US Government at Fort Hayes. She had been a resident of the Galena area for 35 years coming from Columbus. Jean designed the sticker used by the US Government on employees cars to identify them when entering a Government facility.
Jean excelled at anything she did, a staunch Republican and a wonderful homemaker. A self taught pianist she was proficient enough to teach piano and taught many students during her lifetime. Jean enjoyed playing cards, euchre, gardening, sewing and cooking, especially her brownies with caramel icing. In her 70’s she learned to use the computer and played scrabble with her twin sister. Jean and her husband loved to travel and made a trip to the Western United States in their motor home. They also enjoyed time spent in Hawaii and traveling to various casinos to gamble.
She is survived by son: Dale (Bonnie Guckeyevon) Carpenter of Galena; step-son: Jeff Dauphin of Michigan; daughter-in-law: Debbie Carpenter of Howard; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; twin sister: Ruth Bowman of Tipp City; half brother: John Bard of Florida; sisiter-in-law: Jane Carpenter of Centerburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Franklin DeWitt Carpenter on October 7, 2010.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury with Fr. David Sizemore officiating. Private inurnment will follow in the Trenton Cemetery.
