Janet L. Shaw, age 75 of Columbus passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 29, 1935 in Portsmouth to the late Joseph and Zennie (Drake) Bias. A 1953 graduate of Portsmouth High School. She worked 15 years with Westinghouse, retiring from Navistar in 1991, after holding several different positions. Always on the lookout for antiques, she operated J&J Antiques with her sister, specializing in glassware and furniture.

A wonderful cook, her Christmas time delights of fudge, peanut brittle, and fruit cake were favorites. She enjoyed solving puzzle books, bowling, and sewing. Sensitive and generous, she was always the mother and a wise advisor in the matters of life. She will be remembered for her love of family.

She leaves to cherish her memory son James Shaw, daughter Marsha Smith, grandchildren Monica (Andrew) Langwasser, Ronald (Amanda) Bennett III, James E. Shaw II, 5 great-grandchildren, brother David Bias of Delaware, sisters Ruth (Roger) Logan of Newfoundland, NJ, Cynthia J. Bias of Mansfield, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Also preceded in death by sisters: Pauline Safford, JoAnn Arnold, Billie Hook, brother Carl O “Sonny” Bias, and infant siblings: Marsha, Mary Lou, and James.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday 2:30 p.m. at Kingwood Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.
