James W. Tharp

James W. “Jim” Tharp, age 62 of the Kilbourne community, passed away Wednesday morning at his residence after a brief battle with cancer. He was born June 13, 1948 in Elk City, OK to Charles C. and Marie Southwell Tharp. He was a 39 year resident of the Delaware area and an Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a squadman with the Delaware County EMS and groundskeeper/handyman at Chapel Hill Golf Course. Jim was an avid golfer, woodworker and Meals-On-Wheels volunteer. He was an active member of the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee of the church and was often called upon to attend to maintenance issues at the church. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patsy (Blackledge); brother David (Karen) of Findlay, OH; sister Karen Joyce Wherritt of Custer City, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter at her infancy, and a sister Phyllis McKeigg. Friends will be received on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 W. William St., Delaware. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 31st at 1:00 PM in the Kilbourne United Methodist Church. Graveside services with military honors will follow in Greenmound Cemetery.
