James Warren Pilkington, 93, of Delaware, Ohio passed away early Wednesday morning July 16, 2014 at his residence.
He was born December 13, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Henry Matthews Pilkington and Abbie Agnes (Tippet) Pilkington. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He retired in 1978 after working for Borden Milk.
He was past commander and member of the honor guard of VFW Post # 9857 in Columbus. Jim enjoyed fishing, playing cards, golfing and bowling especially with his wife Dorothy. Jim and Dorothy were married 70 years and were inseparable. They did everything together until her death on February 12, 2013. They were married on October 26, 1942 in Greenup, Kentucky. Jim also was an accomplished amateur fast pitch softball pitcher.
Left to cherish his memory are nieces Jackie Zack of Delaware and Glenda (Tony) Blake of Panama; nephew Roger Sparks of S. Carolina; special friend Sue Workman of Delaware; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a host of friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Charles, Forrest, Robert, Frederick, Donald, Ralph, Virgle, Christian, and Neil Pilkington and sisters Chella Ziegler and Zelpha Mason.
The family will receive friends on Sunday July 20th from 2 – 5 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William Street, Delaware, OH and where funeral services will be held on Monday July 21st at 11:00 am with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Johnstown, OH with military honors conducted at graveside.
