James Van Voorhis

James VanVoorhis, age 93, of Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday February 19, 2006 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on June 7, 1912 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Clyde and Bessie (Thomas) VanVoorhis. Mr. VanVoorhis retired in 1974 after 26 years of employment as assistant postmaster in Mount Vernon. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. VanVoorhis was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon and the V.F.W. Post #4027 of Mount Vernon.
He is survived by a son, Thomas (Mary) VanVoorhis of Howard, a daughter, Trish Williams of Mount Vernon, and a grandson, Thomas J. “TJ” VanVoorhis. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen VanVoorhis, two brothers, Lester VanVoorhis and Jack VanVoorhis and a sister Myrtle Arnold.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM. Rev. Jonathan Fettig will be officiating and burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
