James E. “Jim” Storer
October 27, 1942 ‒ April 01, 2016
James E. “Jim” Storer, age 73, of Cardington died early Friday morning, April 1, 2016 at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born on October 27, 1942 in Marion, Ohio the son of the late Melvin Dutton and Esther M. Storer.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Marengo High School and worked for 43 years as a fork lift operator for Snyder Milling Services in Marengo.
On May 27, 1988 he married Emma A. “Freda” Carver in Cardington at the Mayor’s office. This year would have marked the celebration of their 28th Anniversary.
Jim was an extremely skilled craftsman, particularly with wood. He made cabinets, photo boxes, and desks. His daughter Betti Jo spoke of a photo box he crafted for her that had a lid, that “closed perfectly”. He also made Hope Chests for all the granddaughters as well. You could find him reading through a woodworking magazine looking for his next challenge.
He also enjoyed vegetable gardening as well. As a younger man he didn’t appreciate flowers because, “you couldn’t eat them”, but as he grew older he liked having them around the house.
Jim will be remembered as an honest man; someone who told you like it is and wouldn’t waste your time by blowing smoke up your backside. He loved the outdoors and when presented with a problem he would always come up with a way to fix it. He was extremely devoted and a true family man.
Left to cherish to his memory are his wife Freda; his children Betti Jo Parsons of Cardington and Mark Storer and his wife Jane of Rose Hill, Virginia; step-children Chuck Mowers and his wife Connie of Marengo, Bridgette Wade and husband Kerry of Sparta, Sheila Hicks and her husband Scott of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Jake Mowers and his wife Heather of Cardington; 25 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; brothers Paul Storer and his wife Betty of Marengo and Larry Storer of Missouri; sister Kathleen Baughman and her husband Richard of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-daughter Angela Mowers; and siblings Donna Phillips, Virgil Dutton, Jack Storer, Violet Maybery, William M. Storer, and Linda Downer.
