James R. (Russell) Miller, age 86, of Fredericktown, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on July 23, 1928 in Fredericktown, Ohio, to the late Milby and Iva (Cole) Miller. Mr. Miller was employed at Timkins and PPG Industries before joining the United States Army during the Korean War. After the war, Mr. Miller returned to PPG, where he was employed for 30 years.

In his younger years he enjoyed working in his yard and taking care of his tomato plants. Mr. Miller used to be an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Naomi Miller, of Fredericktown; two daughters, Peggy Miller of Dublin and Teresa (Greg) Bemiller of Mt. Vernon; one grandchild, Heather (Scott) Axtell of Westerville; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Gavin Axtell; one brother, Larry (Julie) Miller of Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Kiwi.

Besides his parents, Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Cochran, and his brother, Irvin Miller.

In honoring Mr. Miller’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Saturday, May 30, 2015 beginning at 12 noon. His nephew, Pastor Joe Miller, will be officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of James R. (Russell) Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Miller’s name may be made to Hospice of Knox County.

    I just watched the video and am overcome with love. The pictures paint a beautiful family of affectionate smiles that express such closeness, joy, and love. Your father was immensely handsome and his expressions illuminate such pride in his family. So sorry for your loss but you have many wonderful memories to cherish.
