James Michael “Mike” Johnson

November 22, 1955 ‒ May 25, 2015

Howard, Ohio

James Michael “Mike” Johnson, age 59, of Howard passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 25, 2015.

He was born on November 22, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Harold and Anna (Scarberry) Johnson. Mike was employed by JKB Management where he served as the Physical Plant Supervisor. He enjoyed running and fishing. He was also an avid sports fan and supported the Buckeyes, Browns and especially the Columbus Blue Jackets. Mike’s vast knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems provided him an opportunity to pursue his passion of repairing anything and everything. Mike will forever be remembered as the man to call when something needed fixed. Mike generously shared this gift with many friends and families in their times of need. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and the best dog in the world “Hank”. A friend and mentor to many; he lived his life as an example to others. His work ethic was unsurpassed and his motto was “Always do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”

He is survived by his wife, of over thirty-three years, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Carsey) Johnson; two daughters, Jackie (Andrew) Neighbarger , Sarah Johnson; his son Kyle (Shelly) Johnson; five grandchildren, Brooke and Hannah Johnson, Dawson, Wesley, and Leah Neighbarger; two sisters, Sharon (Scott Cooper) Johnson, Kathy Jeans; his brother Carl (Vicki) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his best friend Jim “Uncle” Coontz.

Friends may call on Friday from 5-8PM at the Apostolic Christian Church (1635 Old Delaware Rd., Mount Vernon). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, at the church, beginning at 11AM with Mr. Wes Humble officiating. The family will observe a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio, 711 East Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43205.

  • Mike was the very best in the Mcdonald’s system at his profession, but it’s nothing compared to the person he was. I don’t know a person more giving. I can’t begin to put in the words the absolute loss I personally, along with the entire organization feels. Jackie, kyle, jd and sarah thank you so much for sharing his time with me, he will truly, truly be missed.

  • Jackie, Kyle, JD, Sarah, and Family: We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mike – we have many memories from over the years that will be cherished forever. When we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven that watches over us – May you find comfort in knowing that you have an amazing angel to watch over you now. He will truly be missed and we will include him/you in our daily prayers…Easier said than done; however, keep the faith and when it becomes impossible, look up. Jeremiah ~33:3

  • Jackie and Family,

We were so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Though we don’t see one another often, we knew you were nearby. We always enjoyed visiting with Mike – just saw him at McDonald’s a couple weeks ago and spoke with him a short time. He certainly was a friend to all and always held his family close to his heart. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. I know God is holding you all in the palm of His hand and will help you find peace and comfort during this sad time. Keeping you all close in thought and prayer.

  • Kyle, Shelly and girls – Mike sounds like was a great person – sorry I never got to meet him – my prayers go out to you in this time of sadness.
