Marion, Ohio
Formerly of Fredericktown, Ohio

James L. “Jim” Thorne left this world Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the age of 85 in his home in Marion, Ohio after an extended illness and went to be with the Lord.

He was born July 5, 1933 in Coshocton, Ohio to Emmitt J. and Olive S. (Kaser) Thorne. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Butler High School and moved to Fredericktown when he married his wife, the late Margie (Frazier) Thorne on March 8, 1953.  Jim was an outstanding salesman for the Rena-Ware Corporation, setting a new World Record in 1962 among other numerous awards during his career.  When he left Rena-Ware, he began working for Groll’s Furniture in Waldo, Ohio until he retired over 30 years later.

After Margie’s passing, he married Lois Greiman and in 1997 moved to Marion, Ohio.

Jim was a veteran of the Korean War serving as Corporal in the US Army. He was also a member of the American Legion, a 60-year member of Thrall Lodge #170, Ann Hill Chapter #81 Order of Eastern Star, the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, and the Grace Baptist Church in Marion.

He loved to hunt mushrooms, was the most sought-after wallpaper hanger in Knox County, and would always let you know he was “fantastic!” Jim enjoyed water skiing, a good game of golf, cheering for the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians. He loved to travel across the country and explore both new and old places alike and was always up for taking a drive on any day of the week.  Most of all, Jim’s greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends.

Jim will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Trudy (Mark) Storrer of Phoenix, AZ, and their children: Jacob, Joshua, Jared, and Morgan Storrer; and his son, James “J.R.” (Jamie) Thorne, of Fredericktown, and their children: Macy, Taylor, and Ty Thorne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie (Frazier) Thorne; his second wife, Lois (Greiman) Thorne; Mother-in-Law, Alice Frazier; Father-in-Law, Robert Frazier; and brothers: Cecil Thorne and Robert “Bob” Thorne.

  • So sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. I met Jim when we lived west of Fredericktown on 95 back in 1966 to 1968. He sold us a set of Rena-Ware. Our paths crossed several times over the years and we enjoyed our visits. I pray for peace, comfort and the strength to see the family through this sad time.

  • So sad. You will certainly be missed dear Star Brother. Your light will always shine bright in the heavens. Prayers to the family.

  • Jim was such a class act.. We know him and his lovely wife Lois from church.. We miss her and will miss seeing his infectious smile. When greeted with ‘How are you today?”, he would always say, “Fantastic” and he meant it. Prayers for peace and comfort in the days to come.

  • To the family, so very sorry to hear of the passing of your loved one, many blessings and prayers.

  • So sorry for your loss. It’s been many years but I remember some good times when our families got together. I told mom about your dad and she sends her sympathies also. Prayers for your comfort.
