James L. Helton Sr.

James L. Helton Sr., age 69 of Centerburg formerly of Ashley passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 following a brief illness.

He was born on November 23, 1949 in Lebanon, Virginia to the late Fred and Annie Mae (Ward) Helton.

Before retiring he worked as a truck driver for Circle S Transport. He was a member of Living Waters Church of God in Marysville and collected Zippo lighters.  Quick to lend a helping hand, he enjoyed classic cars, especially his former vintage green 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.

James treasured time with his family and tinkering on his classic cars. He will be remembered for his caring and loving ways.

He is survived by his wife Judy (Sharp), children: Douglas (Toni) Robinson of Mt. Vernon, Jennifer (Keith) Fisher of Ashley, James L. (Jennifer) Helton Jr. of South Amherst, Jason L. (Mindy) Helton of Vermillion, Jerrod (Kristin) Helton of Mt. Vernon, 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother: G. Arnold Helton of Sparta, and sister Elsie Fay Hall of Grethel, KY.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years; Sandra Kay Andrews in 2012 and a grandson Alexander Helton.

Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St., Delaware where services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Tony Walker officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday at 10:00 am in Marlborough Cemetery.
