James Howard Baker, age 72, of Immokalee, Florida, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday August 20, 2002 at his home in Florida following an illness of ten months. He was born on May 22, 1930 in Mount Vernon to the late Howard and Margaret (Adams) Baker. Jim was a former member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church and AMVETS, Mount Vernon. He was a Veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his wife Patricia (Walpole) Baker , a son, James H. Baker II of Utica, four daughters, Janice Compton , Sharon Cline, Amy Calkins, Susan Baker all of Mount Vernon, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a step-son, John (Diane) Wright of Howard, two step daughters, Carol Spriggs and Beverly Orndorff both of Florida, a step grandson, and a step great grandson, a brother, Rev. Robert (Carrie) Baker of Spencer, Ohio, two sisters, Greta Banbury and Janet (Ernest) Rehling both of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother in law, Stanley Banbury.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Gardens on Thursday at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. David Baker officiating. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
