James E. Darby, age 68, of Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 5, 1944 in Bakersfield, California to the late J.E. and Hellen (Howard) Darby. James worked as a literature evangelist for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church. James enjoyed old cars or working in his flower garden.
He is survived by his wife, Carla (Hanson) Darby whom he married on November 30, 1980, two sons, James (Anne) Darby of Perris, California and John (Mirta) Darby of Redmond, Oregon, son-in-law, Rodney Davis, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and a brother, Dennis (Diane) Cottrell of Poway, California.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a step-son, Douglas Brehms and a step-daughter, Dawn Davis.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 5 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church where friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Fred Shoemaker will be officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date.
