James D. “Jim” Delozier, age 57, of Beckley Road, Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, March 5, 2008 in the Emergency Room at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Jim was born on April 9, 1950 in Patton, Pennsylvania, a son of James A. Delozier of Columbus and the late Dora (Kutruff) Delozier.
Jim had worked for Big Bear Stores, Inc. as Store Manager for several Ohio and West Virginia stores and in 1983 moved to Mount Vernon to work at the old Big Bear Store. Jim was instrumental in planning and building of the new Big Bear Store. In 1999, Jim opened the PakMail franchise in Mount Vernon. He was active in the Mount Vernon Community. He was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, he served on the Saint Vincent de Paul School Board, the Faith Lutheran Christian Pre-School Board, and the Knox County Children’s Service Board. Jim donated to numerous community organizations through his business.
In addition to his father, Jim is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Tippett) Delozier, whom he married on August 26, 1972; a daughter, Kathryn Sullivan Delozier of Mount Vernon; and a son, Jeffrey Michael Delozier of Mount Vernon; brothers, Gary (Deborah) Delozier, Steven (Susan) Delozier, and Richard (Marilu) Delozier all of Grove City; a sister, Linda (Larry) Pierce of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant.
Vigil services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Father Ted Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School, 206 East Chestnut St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
