Jack Brentlinger

March 03, 1941 ‒ December 29, 2007

Cardington, Ohio

Jack H. Brentlinger, 66, of Cardington died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at his residence after a long illness.

He was born on March 3, 1941 in Castleton, Illinois, the son of the late Hobart P. and Muriel (James) Brentlinger.

On November 10, 1972 Jack married his wife of 35 years, Nancy Jane Schrader.

Jack served in two different tours in the United States Navy.

Jack spent several years working as a welder. He then was a guard at the Marion Correctional Facility for over 15 years until his retirement.

As a child he attended the Palmyra Church of Christ in Fredericktown. Jack later became a member of the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church. There he became close friends with Pastor Ed Colegrove who would come to Jack’s home and hold worship services for his family during his illness.

He was also a member of the Marion Masonic Lodge #70.

To his family, Jack was a good natured, very giving man. He was an excellent provider and worked very well with his money. Jack’s affection was not of the traditional nature but you knew he cared for you.

Being direct and opinionated, Jack always knew what he wanted and did not want.

An avid collector, Jack’s home was filled with a wide array of guns, stamps, coins and silver.

With a unique interest in canine companions, he would raise and take care of more than twenty dogs at a time.

In his younger days, Jack enjoyed long rides through the county countryside on his motorcycle.

He will be missed by his wife; his son, Michael Brentlinger of Lexington, South Carolina; his daughter, Kimberly (Chris) Eaker of Columbia, South Carolina; his step-daughter, Lisa (Robert) Wiggins of Cynthiana, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Cassidy (David) Calcutt, Kelley Eaker, Courtney Eaker and Robbie Wiggins; one great grandchild, Kaytlyn Calcutt; and his yellow Labrador Retriever, Autumn, that was happy to be his loyal companion and therapy dog.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 2, 2007 at the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating. A private burial will take place in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338 or the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, 3055 State Route 95 West, Edison, Ohio 43320.
