BELLVILLE: J. Wanda Wirick, 94, of Bellville, passed away Tuesday January 26, 2010 near her Fort Meade, Florida home.
Wanda was born June 16, 1915 to Cyrus and Velma (Phillips) Oldaker. She graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1932, attended Ashland College and was a graduate of Mansfield Business College.
Wanda began her banking career as secretary for Farmers Bank in Bellville, which later became Bank One, and retired as assistant secretary of Bank One of Mansfield after 43 years of service in the industry.
She was a member of the Clear Fork Valley Women’s Club, Pythian Sisters Bellville Lodge #389, and Lexington Area Senior Citizens. Wanda was also a member of the Bellville United Presbyterian Church.
While residing in Florida, bingo was always circled on Wanda’s schedule, meeting and making numerous friends at the Fort Meade City Park Hall. Wanda used art as a medium to express herself, painting landscape scenes and crocheting numerous afghans for her family and friends.
Blessed with a kind and generous heart, Wanda reached out to others in need.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Cora and Dale Mowry of Bellville and Doris and Ardon Miller of Mount Gilead; grandchildren Ryan Mowry of Bellville, Dustin and Adrienne Mowry of Columbus and William John Phillips of Galion; a great grandchild on the way; sister Oma Benjamin of Mt. Vernon; nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Wirick who passed away August 1, 1995.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 11am-1pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where Wanda’s funeral will begin at 1pm. Evangelist Dan Noe will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Jefferson Township-Bellville Rescue Squad or the Good Shepherd Hospice George C. Forsythe Hospice House and may be made at the funeral home.
