MANSFIELD: Ivan Larry “Lightning” Carte passed away Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014 in Mansfield Memorial Homes. He was 60.

He was born August 1, 1954 to Ivan H. Carte & Lottie (Ashworth) Carte in Mansfield and was graduated from Northmor High School.

In spare time, Larry took pleasure in hunting for deer and squirrels, watching NASCAR and drag races, rooting for the Cleveland Browns; and had a fondness for Harley Davidson. But above all, Larry cherished his family and friends.

He was a member of VFW Post #5101 of Lexington.

In addition to his mother Lottie (Ashworth) Carte, he is survived by a sister Barbara Shaver; two daughters Michelle Abrams and Jennifer (Lewis) Lambert; nine grandchildren; a niece Rachel (Todd) Patton of Mansfield; a nephew Cory Crooks; two great-nieces Cheyenne and Kaitlin; great-nephew Joe; a special great-great-niece Natalee “Squiggles”; two special uncles Buck and Denny; three special aunts Audrey, Helen, and Lois; and several special cousins who helped take care of him the past few years. He was blessed to have all his family in Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by his father Ivan Carte in 2008.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a service celebrating Larry’s life will immediately follow at 1 p.m.  Pastor Earl Tackett and Deacon Darold Harless will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville.

  • Lottie, Barbara, and family,

Thanks for trusting me with such an important event this week. What a rare blessing to have all the Carte family in the Mansfield area–you’re a tight knit group! I can tell you all cared for Larry so very much.
