Mount Gilead, Ohio

Iris Rosetta (Jackson) Lamborn, age 84, of Mount Gilead, died Friday evening, April 6, 2012, at Partners of Marion following a battle with brain cancer.

On April 6, 1928, Iris was born at home in Morrow County, the daughter of the late Lloyd F. and Goldie I. (Tischer) Jackson. She was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1946. She also earned her two year teaching certificate from Ashland College.

While attending a PTA meeting, Iris met a young man who turned out to be the love of her life, Charles F. “Chuck” Lamborn. On July 15, 1951, they were united in marriage at the Bryn Zion Baptist Church in Mount Gilead and have shared over 60 wonderful years together.

A woman of devout faith, Iris was a member of Bryn Zion Baptist Church for many years and has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galion since 1996. At one time she was an assistant pianist, organist, and choir director in the church. She also belonged to many organizations including: Rural Mothers Service Club, Alpha Twig at the Morrow County Hospital, Presbyterian Women’s Group, and the Morrow County Historical Society.

She taught 2nd and 3rd grade in the Johnsville and Mount Gilead school districts for five years before finding her true calling, being a loving mother of five children and a homemaker. Family meant everything to her. Together they would go camping and traveled to many destinations. She loved to entertain family and friends for the holidays and make fantastic meals for them all to enjoy. In her spare time she also liked sewing, quilting, and playing hymns on the piano.

Iris will always be remembered most for her love, care and understanding. She was an absolutely wonderful mother and wife.

Iris will be dearly missed by her husband, Charles, of Mount Gilead; five children: Charles C. Lamborn of San Jose, CA, Mark J. (Kae) Lamborn of Bartlesville, OK, Scott R. (Lisa) Lamborn of Columbus, Timothy A. (Beth) Lamborn of Belle Center, OH, Sara A. (Larry) Palmer of Galion; six grandchildren: Steve Drake, Kami and Telly Lance, Corey Welch, Jason and Eric Palmer; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Deb) Jackson of Lenora, KS; a sister, Louise Coldwell of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
