Iola Louise Fissell
August 03, 1920 ‒ February 10, 2007
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Iola Louise Fissell, 86, of Mount Gilead died Saturday evening February 10, 2007 in the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 3, 1920 in Marion, Ohio the daughter of the late William and Imo K. (Moffett) Heth.
A graduate of Marion Harding High School class of 1938 she has spent her life residing in Marion or in Mount Gilead, moving to Mount Gilead in 1946.
On October 25, 1941 she married her loving husband of 36 years; Grover B. Fissell. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1977. She spent her time as a devoted homemaker, wife and mother; helping to raise their three sons.
Iola was an active member of the Bryn Zion Church and their American Women’s Circle. She was highly involved in the community enjoying memberships in various clubs and civic groups. Those included memberships in the Farm Bureau, P.E.R.S., the former Town and Country Mother’s Club, Blue Jay Club, and the King’s Daughter Circle.
She was an avid collector of cardinals; whether a blanket, jewelry, plates, ceramics, anything with a cardinal. She also kept “Marion” and “Mount Gilead” scrapbooks. If there were an article about someone from the area she would cut it out and put in her scrapbook. While those were important parts of her life Iola was most passionate about her children and grandchildren who she loved very much.
With a smile on her face Iola will be remembered as a very caring person; always looking out for folks in the neighborhood or her own family. You might remember her sending you a “get well” card or a “special birthday” card. She would never forget a special occasion.
Iola could tell you about friends or relatives from years ago. Amazing her children with the depths of her memory.
She will be missed by her three sons Robert “Bob” (Shirley) and Keith (Deb) both of Mount Gilead, Ohio and Willard (Pari) of Mansfield, Ohio; six grandchildren Cameron, Corine, Kelsi, Alisha, Zachary, and Caleb; and 2 great grandchildren Aliyah and Caiden.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Waldron and Willard Heth; and a sister Wilma Klemach.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday February 14, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Craven & Snyder Funeral Home, 76 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Jerry Mathias will hold services there on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Bryn Zion Cemetery.
