Howard Russell Reep, age 95, of Cazenovia, New York, formerly of Fredericktown, died August 22, 2015 at Crouse-Irving Hospital in New York. Howard was born December 25, 1919 in Knox County to Walter and Stella (Hines) Reep and attended Fredericktown schools, where he was active in sports, including football and basketball. He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1937, he worked briefly for the Rural Electric Association before entering business college. His education was interrupted by World War Two. Howard joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. As Second Lieutenant Howard Reep USAAC, he returned to Fredericktown on leave, where he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn “Joyce” Postle in 1943. He continued to serve during the remainder of the War at various Army Air Corps bases, with stops in Pocatello and Mountain Home, Idaho; Tonopah, Nevada; and Hanford and Riverside, California, advancing to the rank of Captain. Howard was discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1945, and entered Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he majored in Business Administration. After graduating with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1947, he relocated with his family to Upstate New York , where he began his lengthy civilian career with General Electric in Schenectady, New York. In 1957, Howard helped propel the company into the “Computer Age” when he joined the new Internal Automation Operations unit, for which he traveled extensively to various GE Plants. Howard transferred to the GE plant in Pittsfield, MA in 1966, and back to Schenectady in 1980. Since Howard’s retirement in 1986, he resided in the Cazenovia, New York area and was a member of the congregations at the Fayetteville and Cazenovia United Methodist Churches. Howard is survived by his sons Thomas C. Reep of Leesburg, VA and Dr. Douglas H. (Roselyn C Rafun) Reep of Prosper, TX; grandsons Gregory D. Reep of Prosper, TX, and Jeffrey W. Reep of Alexandria, VA. Besides his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn “Joyce” (Postle) Reep, a sister Bernice (Reep) McAlister and brothers Cecil Reep, Murrell Reep, and Harold Reep. Graveside services with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veteran Council, will be held Thursday September 24, 2015 at 11 AM at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown with Richard Hasley officiating.
