Homer A. Johnson, 71, of Galion, died Saturday, Mar. 17, 2012 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1940 in Lexington, Ohio, he was the son of the late Christopher and Ellen Snyder Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn J. Hill Johnson whom he married June 16, 1962.

Homer served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1961. He was an active member of Windfall Emanuel United Church of Christ and most recently worked at Gledhill Lumber in Galion for over 10 years. Prior to that, he worked at Wolohan Lumber in Marion and at Carpetland in Phoenix, Ariz. as a salesman while living there from 1984 to 1990.

In addition to his wife, Homer is also survived by three sons, Tony Sandy Johnson of Mesa, Ariz., Bradley Elaine Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Michael Jeremy Hill of Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren, Christopher Johnson and Ashley Brian Hinson; one great-grandson, Cayden Hinson; two sisters, Ellen Mae Ralph Palmer of Peoria, Ariz. and Joanne Bob Wilfing of Galion; two brothers, Martin Eleanor Johnson of Glendale, Ariz. and Richard Johnson of Bucyrus and many nieces and nephews, including two nephews and one niece that he raised, Michael Rene Hill of Galion, Mark Hill of Norwalk and Rebecca Bob Gardner of Galion.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded by three brothers, Paul, Robert and John Johnson and half-brothers, Eugene and Lowell Haldeman.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 24, 2012 at Windfall Emanuel United Church of Christ, 1781 Biddle Road, Galion, with Revs. Loyd and Dreama Caudill officiating. Following the service, a luncheon in memory of Homer will be held at the church.
