Hildegard Martha Schmidt, 93, of Delaware (and formerly of St. David, AZ) passed away peacefully on Tuesday (May 29, 2012) at Highbanks Care Center, Worthington. She was born on September 24, 1918 in Stettin, Germany. Her parents were the late Valantin and Ida (Hanke) Witek. Hildegard was a devoted mother and wife. She loved attending Mass and praying the Rosary. In her later years, she found solace in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet revealed by Our Lord to Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun, on Good Friday, 1937. She is survived by her 10 children, Michael (Barbara) Schmidt of St. Petersburg, FL., Monika (Thomas) Aylward of Sonoita, AZ., Barbara Bohland of Grass Valley, CA., Thomas (Anne) Schmidt of St. David, AZ., Maria (Artur) Spiess of Delaware, OH., Felicitas (Peter) Erdmann of Seattle, WA., John (Jennifer) Schmidt of Delaware, OH., Christopher (Lorraine) Schmidt of St. David, AZ., Bernard Schmidt of Chicago, IL., and Theresa (Robin) Franklin of Goldfield Ranch, AZ.; 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John A. Schmidt, brother Paul, sister Grete, and son-in-law Rudi Bohland.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Okpe Augustine at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
