Herbert Limings, age 99, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

He was born on August 19, 1915 in Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late Jarrett and Bessie (Boggs) Limings. Herbert came to Mount Vernon in 1936 and worked at two farms and owned two gas stations. He was later employed at the Mount Vernon Bridge Company, Cureton Casting, and the Gambier Farmers Co-Op. Herbert retired from the Knox County Highway Department and First Knox National Bank. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene here in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed woodworking, gospel music, repairing lawn mowers and going to auctions. But most of all Herbert loved the time he spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, of over 61 years, Luella (Lewis) Limings; his daughter Debra Limings of Mount Vernon; his sister Nora Limings of Baltimore, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by eight brothers, Steve, John, Curt, Con, Harry, Ted, Ossie, and Arbie Limings and his sister Ivory Evans.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held on Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene (807 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon) beginning at 11AM with Rev. Jack Christner officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

  • Dear Debbie and family, I have fond memories of your dad, and the many times he cleared our sidewalk of snow with his snow blower at 600 E. High St. early in the morning even before I got outside. He is loved and missed by so many. May the Lord comfort and bless each of you at this time of loss. He has left a beautiful heritage.
