Helen M. Winters
March 28, 1920 ‒ July 02, 2006
BELLVILLE: Helen M. Winters, 86, of Bellville, died Sunday afternoon July 2, 2006 in Woodside Village, Mount Gilead, following a short illness.
She was born March 28, 1920 in Barberton to George A., Sr. and Mae M. (Forrer) Miller, and was graduated from Butler High School in 1937.
On September 22, 1940 she married Gaylord I. Winters, he preceded her in death in 1975.
For years, Helen worked in her parents’ greenhouse: Miller’s Greenhouse, and she retired in 1985 from Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield, where she gauged thermostats.
She was a member of Newville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as pianist for more than 60 years. Always socially active, Helen enjoyed finding a good game of euchre ~ anywhere in the valley. She was also a member of the Fun-n-Friendship Club, the Bellville-Butler Music Club, and the Clear Fork Alliance Bible Study Club.
She dearly loved reading and studying God’s Word on a daily basis, and tried to keep herself sharp with word-search puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter Anita Winters of Bellville; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Margaret Miller of Norton and Josephine Winters of Mansfield; and dear Brooke Johnson and Bryce Carson whom she “adopted as her own grandchildren.”
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother George Miller, sisters Jane Nelson and Geraldine Ally and an infant sister Margie Miller.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 am. The Rev. Dr. Michael V. Stine will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to The Helen Winters Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral home.
