Helen L. “Moke” Mochel, 86, of Edgefield Drive in Marion died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

She was born on November 3, 1920 in Waldo the daughter of the late Harry J. and Ethel Loma (Hoke) Shultz.

A member of the Marion Community her entire life Helen was a 1938 graduate of Waldo High School. An exceptional athlete Helen played high school basketball and was a pitcher for the Smitty All Stars, a woman’s traveling softball team. She also was a member of the Marion Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame, obtaining a high score of 289.

With no formal training Helen was a gifted interior decorator and ran her own business for over 45 years. When designing, her talents were many, including staining woodwork, hanging wallpaper, and exterior house painting.

She leaves special friends Mabel Wright, Sharon and Bill Flickinger of Marion, Craig and Kathy Flickinger of Marion, and Kevin and Melissa of Richmond Georgia; nephew Jim (Pat) Gerfen of Marion; and great nephews Scott Gerfen of Columbus, and Brad (Alison) Gerfen of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Doris Mae Gerfen.

Friends may call on the family on Thursday October 25, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion. Rev. Mary Curtis will conduct services there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
