Hazel Williamson McAvoy, 84, formerly of Co. Rd. 30, Mt. Gilead, Ohio died Saturday, June 22, 2002 in the Morrow County Hospital ECF.

She was born in Wayne County, West Virginia, on Nov. 8, 1917, the daughter of the late Harv and Pink Maynard Williamson. She moved here in 1961 from Marion County. A homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, shopping, crafts, cooking and being Grandma. She attended the Enterprise Baptist Church.

She is survived by five sons Jerry C. McAvoy of Mt. Gilead, OH, Gary (Patty) McAvoy of Cardington, OH, Ray McAvoy of Edison, OH, Dana (Cheryl) McAvoy of Eugene, OR, and Roger McAvoy of Richwood, OH; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a brother John Williamson of Dover, TN.

Her husband Gorrell “Jack” McAvoy, whom she married May 1943, preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1987. Brothers Jesse, Taft, Kelly and Drew and sisters Frankie, Alta Mae, and Delilah also preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Pastor Gary Stevens will conduct funeral services there Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.
