Hazel E. Miller, 96, of 1350 Fairview Avenue, Galion and formerly of Columbia, Ill. died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at home.

Born Oct. 31, 1910 in Columbia, ILL, she was the daughter of the late Dan Daab and Pauline Frederich Daab. She was preceded in death in 1973 by her husband, James Y. Miller.

She is a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, Ill., where she was very active and served as president of the Women’s Club, as well as president of the Senior Citizens group. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and Worthy High Priestus of the Order of the White Shrine in Columbia. Hazel’s love for the piano led her to play for church services, local nursing homes, senior citizens, gymnastics programs for the Turners in Columbia, and in an orchestra. She worked in Dupo, Ill at the hardware store and worked at the Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis. She owned and operated her own gift shop in Columbia and cooked for her sister at Jeannine’s Tavern.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pat Miller of Galion and Mary Lou and Vern Phillippe of Galion; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Jane Miller of St. Louis, Mo. and seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Volkert and Jeannine Daab; one brother Russell Daab; one grandson David Rudolph and one niece Connie Coleman.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Lawlor Funeral Home, 218 S. Metter Street, Columbia, Ill. 62236. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday July 6, 2007 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. Burial will be in Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery.
