Hays W. Davis, 83, of County Road 98, Mount Gilead, Ohio died Sunday December 12, 2004 at the Newark Healthcare Centre in Newark, Ohio.
He was born in Stacy, Virginia on October 14, 1921, the son of the late Rob and Mae Davis. He served in the 407th Infantry of the U.S. Army in Central Europe during WWII, where he earned a Purple Heart. He has resided here since 1953. He worked for 36 years as a tool and die maker for General Motors in Ontario until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8054, the AmVets Post #87, the U.A.W. Local #549, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law Roger Davis of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Tyrone & Claudia Davis of Lacygen, Kansas, Gary & Vickie Davis of Gambier, Ohio, and Verlee & Pam Davis of Heath, Ohio; two daughters and two sons-in-law Rita and Illui Enriquez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Diana and Allen Dunzing of Wonder Lake, Illinois; 22 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers Linden Davis of Enon, Ohio, and Bernard Davis of Grundy, Virginia; and four sisters Georgia Roberts of Grundy, Virginia, Gertrude Turner of Hampstead, Maryland, Jetty Casey of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, and Laura Williams of Baltimore, Maryland.
His wife Inez Davis, whom he married Dec. 2, 1943, preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1988. A brother Clyde and sisters Ruth and Bonnie also preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Tuesday December 14 from 6-8 p.m. Pastor Rob Musick will conduct services there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com
