BELLVILLE: Hascal Ray Hatten, 80, of Bellville passed away Friday morning June 25, 2010 in his home, following a sudden illness.

Hascal was born December 28, 1929 in Gilbert, West Virginia to Wayman and Bertie (Murphy) Hatten.

Serving in the Army, Hascal fought in the Korean War.

On April 13, 1961 he married Dicie M. Francis.

Working 30 years for the Ford Motor Company, Hascal was a mould finisher. He retired in 1983.

That next year, Hascal and Dicie moved to their 16-acre countryside retreat just south of Bellville. Hascal loved his “Little Piece of Heaven”, tending to his gardens, maintaining his property ~ just being outside.

A busy man ~ Hascal never was still ~ he liked riding his four-wheeler and Harley motorcycle.

Hascal attended Pleasant Grove Community Church.

He is survived by his wife Dicie Hatten of Bellville; son James Hatten of Portland, Oregon, daughters and sons-in-law Teresa and Keith Leibee of Baldwin, Missouri and Roberta and Kirk Gangl of Medina, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Arlene Hatten of Johnsville; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Bonnie & Larry Jordan of Jacksonville, Florida and Connie & Curtis Staley of Huntington, West Virginia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Harvey and Jimmie Hatten and sisters Margaret Hatten, Alma Staley, Anna Mae Ratcliff and Sadie Livingston

The Hatten family will receive friends on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral where the funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Ken Kinley will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery, where American Legion Post #535 will hold graveside military honors.

Memorial contributions to the Jefferson Township-Bellville Rescue Squad may be made at the funeral home.
