Harry Wilson, age 88, of Fredericktown, died Wednesday February 8, 2012 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. Harry was born August 7, 1923 in Johnstown, Ohio to Hugh C. and Stella (Smith) Wilson. Harry was an original member of the Brandon Blues Baseball Team which was organized and managed by Fred Hayes. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic. After the war, Harry returned to Knox County, and on February 6, 1949 married his sweetheart Betty Jo Thomas. Harry maintained a farm near Fredericktown and also worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation for 30 years.
He was a member of the Fredericktown First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Betty Jo (Thomas) Wilson; daughters and son-in-laws Patty Jo and John Franklin of Newbury, California, Pamela and Tom Lanum of Cardington, Deborah Yetzer of Newark and Amy Koelbl of Mount Vernon and William Wright of Fredericktown; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his daughters Rebecca “Becky” Wilson and Nancy Wright, brother Lawrence Wilson and sisters Ruth Atkinson, and Helen Thompson.
Friends may call Monday February 13, 2012 from 4pm to 7pm at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Funeral services will be Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 11am at the Fredericktown First Baptist Church with Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
