Harriet M. “Pat” Schmidt, age 89, of Mount Vernon, died peacefully Friday June 26, 2009 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born March 28, 1920 in Wintergreen, Ohio to Otis and Susan (Buell) Taylor. She had been employed at the Mount Vernon City Schools for 16 years and had served as a volunteer for Interchurch Social Services in Mount Vernon for 12 years and at the Knox Chapter of the American Red Cross for 2 years. Pat was an avid reader, enjoyed her card club and many friends, and was an active and faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her sons David F. (Linda) Schmidt of Columbus and Robert F. (Connie) Schmidt of Westerville; a son-in-law Dave Thompson of Delaware; 7 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and a step great grandchild. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James F. Schmidt, her daughter Jeri Susan Thompson, her brother John Taylor and her sister Mary Dailey.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High Street, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10am at Faith Lutheran Church 170 Mansfield Ave. Mount Vernon. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
