Harold W. Neff

Harold Wendell Neff, age 87, of Marion, Ohio died Thursday March 11, 2010 at his Florida home.
He was born June 24, 1922 in Martel, Ohio, youngest son of Joseph Kinsel and Effie Katherine (Kurtz) Neff. He is survived by his brother, John Neff of Mount Gilead and preceded in death by his infant brother, Eldon and his beloved sister, Doloros Lew. He graduated seventh in his class from Martel School in 1940. He studied Electrical Engineering at The Ohio State University and served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Northern Africa.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maxine (Willoughby) Neff whom he married on June 23, 1946. They owned and operated Neff Electrical Construction Company from June 3, 1963 until Steve Neff assumed ownership in 1995.
He loved summer weekends on Lake Erie where he owned residences and was an avid fisherman. He taught boating safety for the Marion Division of the United States Power Squadron and served as Past Commander.
Harold was actively involved in The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Chapter 62, and The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Marion Council 22, and The Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus. He was a Master Mason in the Marion Lodge 70 and one of the original drivers of the Marion Shrine Roadsters.
Born and raised in the Sixteen Church in Martel, Harold loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served him in several local churches. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, the Mount Vernon Avenue Church of Christ and Richland Road Church of Christ. He loved singing in his church’s choirs and with his son, Steve, in their men’s quartet, “The Grandpas” along with Ellis Wesner and John Bell.
An avid traveler, Harold enjoyed sharing his travel adventures to four continents and all fifty states. He will forever be remembered as a gentleman who never spoke a negative word.
In addition to his devoted wife, Maxine, he is survived by his son, Steven Neff (his wife Vicki) of Marion, two daughters, Peggy Bushatz (her husband David) of LaRue, and Jenny Cafarchio (her husband Anthony) of Ormond Beach, Florida.
His grandsons: Michael Neff, Matthew Neff both of Marion, Zachary Bushatz of Dayton, Ohio, Captain Luke Bushatz of Seattle, Washington, Anthony Cafarchio, Jr., and James Cafarchio, both of Ormond Beach, Florida will serve as pallbearers. Harold is survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday March 17, 2010 from 4-7 PM at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home. Russell Howard will officiate funeral services on Thursday, at 11:00 AM at the Richland Road Church of Christ, 535 Richland Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
