Harold Glenn Phillips

November 05, 1927 ‒ August 10, 2012

Crestline, formerly of Morrow County, Ohio

Harold Glenn Phillips, age 84, of Crestline and formerly of Morrow County, died Friday morning, August 10, 2012, at the Crestline Nursing Center following a long illness.

On November 5, 1927, Harold was born in Mount Gilead, the son of the late Davis A. and Grace E. (Weaver) Phillips. He was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1947.

To say Harold was a hard worker would be an understatement. He was a proud self employed dairy farmer to the core. He owned and operated several farms in Morrow County, the largest having 500 head of cattle and covering 3000 acres. He even took it as far as having a glass of milk with every meal. During downtimes of the year he worked many other jobs including: Cooper Bessmer in Mount Vernon, Peabody in Galion, Landmark in Mount Gilead, and Sims Fertilizer in Iberia.

Harold always made time to get away from work and spend time with his family. He would take them fishing, go to movies, and even go dancing at times, never being afraid of making a fool of himself. When he couldn’t get away from work, his kids would enjoy helping him around the farm. He was a big supporter of the 4-H and FFA programs, which his children all participated in growing up.

Even though Harold was stern and bullheaded, he was always helping others and his heart was full of love for his family.

Harold will be dearly missed by five children: Wesley (Emily) Phillips of Galion, Brad Phillips of Mount Gilead, Dinah Phillips of Fulton, Teresa (James) Lupton of Mount Gilead, Genell (Ed) Ryon of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Mary Jane) Phillips of Arizona; two sisters, Helen Cornell of Galion and Carol (Tiny) Corfman of Sycamore.

He was preceded in death by three wives: Beulah Mae Lucas, Della Hamilton, Maxine Ann Sterritt; two children, Michael and Jennifer Phillips; three brothers: Hubert, Charles, Ronald Phillips; and two sisters, Irene Phillips and Maxine McPeak.

The Phillips family will greet friends from 12- 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held there immediately following at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joshua L. Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to assist the family with funeral expenses.
