Harold E. “Dutch” West, 95, formerly of West High Street, Mt. Gilead, Ohio, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 in Churchman’s Village in Newark, Delaware.

He was born in Valparaiso, Nebraska on April 26, 1907, the son of the late George A. and Olive C. (East) West. He resided in Mt. Gilead from 1928 until 1996, when he moved to Delaware. He worked as the plant superintendent for both the Florence Pottery and H.P.M. Corporation in Mt. Gilead until retiring in 1969. He was a member of the former Mt. Gilead ODD Fellows Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law JoAnn & Charles Yembrick of Wilmington, DE, Janice & James Woods of Kensington, MD; six grandchildren Mark, Christy, Scott, Jody, Lynn & Stephen; three great grandchildren Josh, Jenni, & David; and a great great grandson Jacob.

His wife Eula B. Fletcher West, whom he married Jan. 18, 1927, preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1991. A son Harold West, Jr. and a sister Mable Harthorn also preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Craven Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Pastor Joe Blevins will conduct funeral services there Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
