Harold Daniels

January 05, 1937 ‒ October 07, 2007

Cardington, Ohio

Harold Daniels, age 70, of Cardington, died unexpectedly early on Sunday morning, October 7, 2007, at his residence.

He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on January 5, 1937, the son of the late Thomas and Anise Bailey Daniels. Harold graduated from Cadmus High School in the Class of 1955.

On June 8, 1958, Harold married the love of his life, Judy Drake Daniels in Quaker Town, and they shared almost fifty wonderful years together. The two of them were like “bread and butter,” as you never saw one without the other. To Judy, Harold will always be her “honey,” her soul mate.

For forty five years, Harold worked as a lab technician testing milk cultures that would be brought in from the farm. The first thirty two years were with Borden Dairy in Columbus, and the last thirteen at Tamarack Farms in Newark (a division of Kroger) until his retirement in 2002. Since then Harold had worked part time for Napa Auto Parts in Mount Gilead delivering parts. Those three days each week he enjoyed shooting the breeze with each mechanic and spoiling their dogs with treats.

With a love of the outdoors, Harold and his family often went on camping trips “all over.” If one person in the family was going, they all wanted to go. He was in charge of getting the camper ready and getting a warm fire started.

Upon his wife’s family farm, Harold and his son enjoyed hunting everything from rabbit and squirrel to turkey and deer. In 2003, he was proud to bring home a fifteen point buck.

A “VIP,” Harold enjoyed their many trips to the riverboats to play slot machines.

His family will never truly understand, but Harold had an extensive collection of brown bean pots, always wanting “just one more” and he and his wife found them at various yard sales, flea markets and auctions.

To Harold, his family was his life. He “worshipped the ground they walked on,” and often would brag to everyone about his wife, children and grandchildren. Life for them will never be the same without him, and they will dearly miss him forever.

Left to cherish his memory are wife, son: Larry (Kendra) Daniels of Mount Gilead; two daughters: Vicki (Kevin) Dunaway of Cardington, and Diane (Dave) Bowersmith of Edison; four grandchildren: David (Ashley) Bowersmith, Danielle Bowersmith, Brian (Ashley Sheets) Roush, and Becky Roush; one great-grandson: Evan Bowersmith; brother: Hobart (Ann) Daniels of Thurman; three sisters: Ruby (Dave) Pelphrey of Jackson, Faye (Jim) Coleman of Columbus, and Rosalie Swanson of Gallipolis; sister-in-law: Melanie Daniels of Shawnee; extended family: Mark & Marcie Chamberlin and their daughter Cara; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers: Garel and Leo Daniels; parents-in-law: Edward and Garnet Drake; sister-in-law: Edna Daniels; and brother-in-law: Frank Swanson.

His family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Brantingham officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1100 Dennison Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43201.
