Harley J. Mizer, age 92, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Autumn Health Care in Mount Vernon. He was born on October 3, 1918 in Danville, a son of the late William and Beulah (Rahn) Mizer.
Harley was a retired farmer and a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon. He enjoyed sports, traveling, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Harley is survived by his loving wife, Mabel (Banbury) Mizer, whom he married on August 22, 1939; son, Dan (Linda) Mizer of Groton, New York; daughters, Barbara (Neel) Awwiller of Fredericktown and Connie (Dick) Armstrong of Ashland; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; a sister, Erma Sweet of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harley was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence, an infant brother, Claude, Irvin, Lloyd, Ralph, and Bob Mizer; and a sister, Eva Body.
The family will receive friends from1 p.m. until the time of Harley’s funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 11360 Liberty Chapel Rd. Mount Vernon with Rev. Thom Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
