Grace Helen Whitaker

MANSFIELD: Grace Helen Whitaker, nee Woodruff, was born September 25, 1924. She was the ninth of ten children and all of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She graduated cum laude from Coalton High School in Jackson County in 1942, and was named Jackson County Apple Festival queen during her senior year. After graduation, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio, and later worked as a bridal consultant at Lazarus and Morehouse Fashion in Columbus, Ohio.
She married Walter L. Whitaker, also from Jackson, Ohio in August 1946. She is survived by her husband, three children, Carla (Chris) Rumas, John Whitaker, Paul (Jane) Whitaker, four grandchildren, Tad (Kathy) Rumas, Reid (Britt) Whitaker, Chase Whitaker, Brooke Whitaker, Wesley Whitaker, Spencer Whitaker; and great grandchildren, Kayla Rumas, Timothy Rumas, Banyan Whitaker, and Finn Magnolia Whitaker.
She dedicated her life to her faith and her family and served with her husband in ministry in the Evangelical United Brethren Church then the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Snyder Funeral Home in Bellville, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 5pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. A memorial service is planned which will be held at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 20, at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Dr. Beverly Hall will officiate and burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
