Gordon William Eyster

June 14, 1950 ‒ November 22, 2017

Bellville, Ohio

BELLVILLE: Musician, teacher, traveler, cinephile, foodie: Gordon William Eyster, 67, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife and family by his side, on his father’s birthday, November 22, 2017, in Bellville, Ohio.

Gordy was born on his mother’s birthday, June 14, 1950, in Richland County, Ohio, to the late Benn and Ninabel (Burkholder) Eyster. After 16 years of courting, he married Tina M. (Sells) Eyster, on March 23, 2001.

After graduating from Clear Fork High School in 1968, Gordy obtained a minor in psychology from Ashland College and a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University.  Thereafter, he spent 24 years as an elementary school teacher for both Lexington and Mansfield City Schools.

In addition to his quick wit and unique sense of humor, those that knew Gordy are familiar with the sound of his singing voice and the strum his fingers had on a guitar.  He was associated with various bands over the years, including Sage and Sweet Revenge.  Gordy loved singing with his daughter, Tami, and the family will enjoy his musical recordings for years to come.  Gordy and Tina loved to travel, and did so frequently.  They were happy to be in the presence of each other while relaxed and on vacation.

Surviving Gordy are his wife and children, Tamara (Alex) Rodriguez of Lexington, KY, Gordon Matthew (Kate) Eyster of Shelby, Cindy (Jeff) Kelly of Columbus, and Linda (Jack) Mangus of Bellville; grandchildren, Mariela Rodriguez, Nic and Max Eyster, Hannah, Tyler and Jacob Parsons, Cody and Amanda Kelly, Makayla and Kyleigh Mulkey, Emma Parsons, and Ava and Charlie Mangus; brother, Kevin (Vivian) Eyster of Canton, MI; sister-in-law, Rayna Eyster of Eureka, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Darryl and Erryl Eyster; and nieces: Jana Eyster and Kara Eyster.

At Gordy’s request, no services will be held.  Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Gordy’s family and encourages you to share a fond memory or message of condolence to them at SnyderFuneralHomes.com.

  • Tina,

Main association with Gordy was through the band Sage, however, in our small community I am friends with his brother Kevin, and Gordy went to school with some of my older siblings. As the “kid” in that band Gordy always watched out for me and was had a kind word and smile for me any time I saw him.
