Gladys Marie (Leggett) Yost, age 96 of Sunbury and Spencer, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday May 22, 2007 at New Life Hospice in Lorain.

She was born in Jewett, Ohio on August 20, 1910 to the late Roy and Mary Jane (Barcus) Leggett and married John Marshall Yost in 1929. Gladys earned her LPN certification at age 60 and worked at Providence Hospital in Sandusky, retiring in 1981 after 11 years of service.

Gladys and John farmed in the Adena area for 45 years and she was affectionately known as the “Egg Lady”. She enjoyed nursing, cooking, quilting and needlework, gardening and traveling. She had traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Mexico and many other places. She was a Sunday School teacher and member of a quilting group at Harrisville Presbyterian Church, choir member of the Adena Methodist Church and member of the Condit Presbyterian Church in Sunbury. She most recently attended the North Eaton Christian Church in Grafton while residing with her son in that area.

She is survived by daughters: Jane Zimmerman of Sunbury, Dorothy (Paul) Swayne of Delaware; sons: Gene (Nancy) Yost of Spencer, David (Jeanie) Yost of Leonardtown; son-in-law: Gary M. Bates of Beavercreek; 10 grandchildren: Curtis Yost, Roger Yost, Luann Brunner, Martha Abram, Shelly Yost-Green, Michael Yost, Melinda Dullea, Douglas Swayne, Eric Swayne, Kimberly Garrity; 21 great grandchildren. Sisters: Margaret “Betty” Farrell of Cadiz, Frances “Mae” Roberts of Elyria.

She was preceded by her husband of over 46 years: John M. Yost in 1975; daughter: Susan Bates in 2005; brother: Roy Leggett; sister: Helen Leggett.

Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Condit Presbyterian Church 15102 Hartford Road, Sunbury with Rev. Carol Weiss officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Belmont County, Ohio.
