Gladys L. “Bobby” Amicon
December 06, 1918 ‒ March 30, 2009
MANSFIELD: Gladys L. “Bobby” Amicon, age 90, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 in the ER at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
Bobby was born on December 6, 1918 in New Bloomington to William Otis and Mamie (Stetler) Mead. She was raised in rural Marion County, and loved riding her horse along the countryside.
Bobby had a free spirit and when given the choice between a car or motorcycle at the age of 16, she preferred to have the motorcycle.
It was through her love of cycling that she met Clement J. “Tony” Amicon. They were wed January 8, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2001.
A wonderful wife and mother, Bobby took great pride in caring for her family.
Marrying into an Italian family meant many botched attempts at spaghetti. But once Bobby had it perfected no one could prepare the family favorite better.
Bobby is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law David L. Amicon of Mansfield, and Dennis M. and Lisa Amicon of Sanford, Florida, a daughter and son-in-law Aurora L. and Fred Guarino of Stuart, Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses Judy R. and David Carney, Gina and Martin DeAnda, Stephanie and Allen Weaver, and Keri Beth Hall; five great grandchildren Justin and Taylor Carney, Abby and Brad Weaver, and Priscilla DeAnda; a sister-in-law Marian Amicon of Arlington, Virginia, a sister-in-law and very close friend Letha Mead of Delaware.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings and their spouses Leonard and Glenna Mead, Lyda and John Bondra, Orville and Lu Mead, Eleanor Jane Mead, Irene Evelyn Mead, and William Otis Mead, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 5 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call the hour prior.
Memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice may be made through the funeral home.
