Gladys J. Arnt

July 14, 1942 ‒ July 22, 2018

Marion, Ohio
Formerly of New Bloomington, Ohio

Gladys J. Arnt, age 76, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Genesis Healthcare Center following an extended illness.

On July 14, 1942, Gladys was born in New Bloomington, Ohio, one of five children of the late Leroy and Mable (Parks) Montgomery.  She graduated from New Bloomington High School in the class of 1960.

Shortly following graduation, Gladys married the love of her life, William E. “Bill” Arnt, on November 13, 1961.  Together they shared fifty four years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on November 1, 2015.

In addition to being a loving homemaker, caring for husband and seven children, Gladys worked at Medcenter Hospital in Marion, where she kept inventory and ordered their surgical supplies.

A woman of faith, Gladys was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion, where she served in the nursery, as a bus captain, and as a janitor.

Having a green thumb, Gladys took great pride in tending to her flower garden every year.  She also loved sitting on her front porch, conversing with her neighbors and enjoying the view of her beautiful flowers.

Over the years, Gladys and Bill enjoyed raising and boarding horses, something that brought them both great joy.  They also loved “wheeling and dealing” at flea markets.

Most important of all to Gladys was her family.  She was most proud of raising her seven children, all of whom love and honor her.

Special in so many ways, Gladys will be remembered as hard working, loving, and faithful.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Teresa (Ken) Falen, William (Sonja) Arnt, Jr., Larry (Lisa) Arnt, Vickie (Victoria) McCoy Arnt and George W. Arnt; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Montgomery of Marion, and George Montgomery of Cleveland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by two children and a son-in-law: Bethany (Larry) Dunn, and Ronald Arnt; and two sisters: Clara Mae Lucas and Betty Adams.

Her family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ronald Douglas officiating.  Burial will follow in Agosta Cemetery, New Bloomington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 135 Fairview St, Marion, OH 43302.

  • Sorry to hear of the loss of Gladys. I worked with her at MedCenter. Gladys was a special lady…very nice to all she met. She had a heart of gold and was concerned about my and others well being and being with the Lord. We in the purchasing department were sorry to see her retire. Post retirement I would see her from time to time at the Clinic and we would catch up on things. My condolences to the family. Heaven has got another angel.

  • Sorry to hear of her passing. I have many fond memories of playing on that porch and taking to Mrs. Arnt about her flowers. She will be missed in the neighborhood. My condolences to the family. Will keep you all in my prayers.

  • Such a hard worker from a hard working family. Though very distantly related, My folks always spoke very highly of her mother and family. Gladys was no exception, cooking, canning, caring for kids and people, etc. She is just beginning to reap her reward and spend time with her Savior. God bless the family and help them keep the faith.

  • My condolences to the family. I worked with Gladys at medcenter for many years. Always kind and had nice stories to share. You were blessed with a wonderful mother.

  • My condolences to the family, and may God bless you. Mrs Arnt was a great lady and faithful Christian. She will be remembered for her kindness and caring.

  • We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Gladys. She was a wonderful and caring woman. I worked with her at MedCenter as well, and she was loved by everybody. Gladys always had a smile for you and always had a kind word. She surely loved her family, and her love for the Lord shown all over her. She is now in the loving arms of the One she loved so much. Praying that God will be with her family and friends at this time and the time ahead. May the Lord wrap His arms around you all and surround you with His Love. Praying to for peace, the peace that passes all understanding that only He can give, and for strength. Let the memories that we all share of Gladys keep her always close to us until we meet her again in the Kingdom of Heaven. God Bless you all.

  • Prayers and strength to the entire family, Heaven has definitely inherited another angel. For many years Gladys provided ever lasting smiles. I will miss her for sure.

  • Willie,

I didn’t know your mother, but just reading the other condolences is such a blessing and makes me wish I had met her. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is very fortunate to have a wonderful patriarch to lead her family and provide a beautiful witness of her love of the Lord. I can tell she let her light shine for all that knew her. I will be praying for you and your family. God bless.
