Gladys I. Smith, age 99, of New Bloomington, died Tues, Jan 7, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family a month shy of her 100th birthday.

On Feb 6, 1920, Gladys was born in Wyandot County, OH, one of four daughters of the late Ephraim and Iris (Ulrich) Stansbery.

In 1950, Gladys married the love of her life, Virgil R. Smith.  They loved going fishing together, and especially taking their trailer up to fish in Lake Erie. He preceded her in death in 1970.

A card shark, Gladys was well known for her euchre skills.  She was always ready for a good game of cards.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union.

One of the most loving people you could ever meet, Gladys was the best mother, grandmother, etc. her family could have ever asked for.

She will be missed by her three children: Gene (Sarah) Stansbery of TN, Richard (Mary) Stansberry of New Bloomington, and Verna (Orville) Russell of Marion; 12 grandchildren: Robin Smith, Gene (Terri) Stansbery Jr., Shasta Hansen, Richard (Krisstina) Stansberry Jr., Harley Huffine, Tress (Mitch) Bundy, Todd (Tiffany) Huffine, Christopher (Susan) Huffine, Heath (Lili) Stansberry, Scott (Julie) Stansberry, Angel Russell, and Sunshine (Judd) Edwards; a step son, Gibb (Marcella) Smith; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, a great grandson; a great-great grandson; three sisters; and six step children.

Her family will greet friends from 1–2 pm on Mon, Jan 13, 2020, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will follow at 2 pm.  Burial to follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
