Gladys D. James, age 93, of Chesterville, died Friday December 21, 2001 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Gladys was born October 9, 1908 in Morrow County to C. Charles and Mary Jane (Bachelder) Killen and had spent her lifetime in Morrow County. Gladys was co owner of the former Home Electric Company in Mount Vernon for 30 years. She was the oldest member of the Chesterville United Methodist Church which she joined in 1944. She was a active member of the church and the United Methodist Women. She had also served on the church administrative board. Gladys was a 50 year member; life member and past Worthy Matron of the Evelyn Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Chesterville. When her children were in school Gladys was active with many school and community activities in Chesterville.

Surviving are her 4 sons Richard (Mary) James, Paul (Irma) James, and Morris (Sue) James all of Fredericktown and Dale (Mary) James of Bexley; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl James, an infant son Harold William James and 3 brothers Brant, Romie and Howard.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown where funeral services will be Monday at 11:30 AM with Rev. Larry Draper and Rev. Mark Boedeker officiating. Burial will follow at Bryn Zion Cemetery near Mt. Gilead.
