Girard E. Edelblute “Lou”, age 84, of Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, died Tuesday July 29, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. Girard was born May 15, 1924 in Delaware, Ohio to Lester and Alpha (Hayes) Edelblute and served in the United States Army during World War Two. He had been owner and manager of Lou’s Steak House, Warehouse Smorgasbord, Mr. Hoagie and Lou’s Catering all of Mount Vernon and the A&W Root Beer stand in Circleville. He was a member of the Church of God in Delaware and the Church of God in Circleville.
Surviving are his daughters Ginger (Mike) Emerine of Fort Myers, Florida, Karen (Daniel) Smith of Circleville and Mara (Mark) Gamble of Centerburg; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his lifetime companion Elsie Beechy of Mount Vernon; his brother Joe Edelblute of Jupiter, Florida his half brothers Charles Edelblute of Illinois and James Edelblute of Hilliard, Ohio; his sister Mary Roskopf of Marion; and half sisters Judy Hayes, Christina Smart and Pam Yost all of Ashley.
Besides his parents Girard was preceded in death by a grandson Mike “Putzer” Emerine and two brothers George Edelblute and Jack Edelblute.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 PM. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
