October 28, 1906 ‒ January 07, 2008

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Gertrude M. “Gertie” Price, formerly of County Roadd 61, Mount Gilead, Ohio died Monday morning, January 7, 2008 at the Woodside Village Care Center.

She was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 28, 1906, the daughter of her late, German immigrant, parents Fredrick and Anna (Neumann) Sendzick.

Before moving to Ohio Gertie did some practical nursing and also worked as a parachute inspector in Detroit. It was around this time that her future husband, George A. Price came to visit his uncle who was married to Gertie’s aunt. They met, began dating, and were married in 1925.

After their marriage, they moved to Findley, where they bought several farms, moving back and forth to Detroit. Eventually, the Prices bought a farm near Candlewood Lake in 1986. George passed away in 1991 at the age of 88. The couple had been married for 66 years.

A homemaker, Gertrude was an expert seamstress, and even made her husbands “BVDs” out of feed sacks.

Gertie was a woman of strong faith. She helped organize the Faith Lutheran Church in Mansfield, where she was the organist and a Sunday school teacher. She later joined the Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Synod, in Kenton.

Playing the organ was a past time she loved to share with others in her apartment complex. She would open her windows in the summer time and let the melodies drift outdoors. Gertie continued to play her organ into her Centennial birthday.

She is survived by a great niece Ruth Weber of Bucyrus; and two special friends Carol Gallion of Cardington and Pam Estep of Mount Gilead.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Walter and Frederick Sendzick, two sisters Frieda Sendzick and Hedwig Green; and two half-sisters Elizabeth Jarson and Hildegard Ferone.

Rev. Ralph O. Stuebs will conduct funeral services on Thursday January 10, 2008 at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 40 Washington Blvd., Kenton, Ohio 43326.
