Delaware, Ohio

Geraldine K. “Gerry” Antoine, age 89 formerly of Delaware passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

She was born on September 8, 1925 in Falls, Pennsylvania to the late Peter and Valera (Britton) Kettell.

A lifelong educator, she was a teacher for more than 50 years, having taught in public, Christian, home school and even overseas missions schools. The Spanish language was her passion as she not only taught, but also authored multiple Spanish textbooks.

For those she knew and loved, she was the constant prayer warrior. She was a faithful supporter of missionaries around the globe.

“Graggy,” as she was known by her family and too many close friends, lived life with passion.  In between her many education and church commitments, she could be found on a sports sideline cheering on grandkids, running a video camera at a special event, hosting the family’s holiday meals or trying to master a new computer she had just acquired.

She is survived by her children: Casey Moore of McHenry, IL, John Antoine of Delaware; Grandchildren: Lance (Danielle), Gabe (Dawn), Luke and Kristen; Great-Grandchildren: Rylee, Hayden, Peyton, Connor, McKenna, Bella and Carson.

  • Casey, Lance, Gabe and Family
We are saddened to hear of the loss of your mom and graggy. She was a very special lady that encouraged and prayed for me many times when I was in Delaware. I will always remember the flan she would make for special meals and how much students enjoyed learning Spanish with her.
We know she is happy to be present with the Savior she loved and served so whole-heartedly; but will be sorely missed. May you rest in the peace and comfort of our loving Father and keep her close through your precious memories.
    All our love,
    John and Roberta Long

Muchas gracias por todo tu amor y toda tu dedicación.
Ahora estas con el señor. Descansa en paz.

  • We’re so sorry to hear of your loss. She was a fantastic teacher and wonderful person. I still sing my kids songs I learned in her classes: “Zaqueo, bájate de ahí, porque a tu casa voy a ir.”

  • Gerry was the best Spanish teacher ever and a wonderful friend. What a privilege to have taken lessons from her later in my life. Her passion for Spanish still keeps me studying it. Gerry always will remind me of her detailed method of teaching Spanish for applying in life. Lastly, Gerry was my mentor in her love for the Lord and her family. I will truly miss her but rejoice that she is in the presence of the Lord. May her family find comfort in that assurance.
