BELLVILLE: Gerald L. Campbell, 70, of Bellville-Johnsville Road, Bellville died Sunday morning October 26, 2003 in his home following a short illness.
He was born October 1, 1933 in Crawford County to LaVern W. and Helen D. Michener Campbell, was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1951, and remained a lifelong Mansfield area resident.
On June 20, 1954 he married M. Lorraine Prosser Campbell, and they moved to Bellville in 1970.
For 35 years, he worked as an automotive electrician with Rex Gilbert Auto Electric, Inc., leaving in December of 1988 to open and operate his own business Campbell’s Auto Electric from his rural Bellville home. He maintained his business until he became ill in April of this year.
One of Gerald’s main interests, from 1975 to 1993, was riding his Honda Goldwing Aspencade motorcycle. He and Lorraine enjoyed traveling to Canada, the US West Coast, Florida and the New England states, as well as numerous short trips.
In 1993 Gerald sold the Goldwing and bought his 1939 Chevy, which he converted into “Bugs Bunny” street rod, that he and Lorraine exhibited at numerous car shows.
He was a former member of Washington Station Street Car Club and a recent member of InLiners International.
Gerald was a member of First Alliance Church, Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years; their children Sharon and Mike Garrett of Fresno, Ohio, Susan and Dave Thompson of Butler, Gary Campbell and his special friend Melanie Miller of Crestline, and Daniel and Cheryl Campbell of Spring Hill, Florida; grandchildren Heather Garrett of Coshocton, Holly and Jason Skelly of Kidron, Eric and Debbie Sargent of Fort Riley, Kansas, Bradley Sargent of Bellville, Corey Campbell, Cody Campbell, Eryn Campbell all of Crestline, Olivia and Molly Campbell both of Florida; great grandchildren Jacob Skelly and Chloe Sargent; his brother and sister-in-law Clare and Helen Campbell of Bellville; two nieces and two nephews.
The family will receive friends today Tuesday, October 28, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. The worship service, giving Glory to God for the life of Gerald L. Campbell will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 11 am in First Alliance Church, 291 West Cook Road, Mansfield, with the Rev. Kevin Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Great Commission Fund of the church or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at the funeral home.
