Gerald James Schumacher

LEXINGTON: Gerald James Schumacher passed away Monday morning, January 14, 2019 in his Lexington home surrounded by his family. He was 80.
He was born April 12, 1938 in Mansfield to parents Dwight G. and Mildred Mary (Mawhorr) Schumacher. Gerald was raised on the same property that he and his wife Linda still reside. After he was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1956, he proudly served his country by joining the US Army. He served two years active duty in France and Germany and was honorably discharged in August of 1967.
Gerald worked in construction most of his life with his father’s business, Dwight G. Schumacher & Sons, but also worked in maintenance and repair at Mid-Ohio Race Track and for Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington.
He was a member of New Life Church of Christ where he served as a communion distributor.
Always working, Gerald was working as recent as this past April. He enjoyed farming and woodworking and was always puttering in the garage. An animal lover, he always had a dog and kept chickens. He and Linda loved to spend the day in Amish Country and traveling to Gatlinburg, TN and Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda K. (Shindeldecker) Schumacher, whom he married June 4, 1965; a son Michael Schumacher of Bellville; two brothers and a sister-in-law Larry R. and Marjorie Schumacher and Wayne D. Schumacher all of Lexington, an aunt Dorothy Mawhorr, sisters-in-law Donna Shindeldecker of Shelby and Geneva Shindeldecker of Mansfield along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
His family will receive friends Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in New Life Church of Christ, 195 West Durbin Avenue, Bellville, where a funeral service honoring his life will be held 11 a.m. Pastor Kyle Thompson will officiate and interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery. His family asks that you please attend in casual dress. The Irvin Hiskey Post #535 will perform military honors at the church.
